What Microplasma Torch Connection do I need? Posted onSeptember 1, 2026September 1, 2026Authorprocess What torch connection do I need? Any torch ordered from PWS needs to include a suffix to the part number to tell us what type of machine it will be connected to. For instance: A HP50 may be ordered as HP50-ULT, HP50-OER, or HP50-DA. Other connections may be available by special order. -ULT ULT originally designated use with a Thermal Dynamics Ultima 150 power supply. The Ultima 150 is no longer manufactured, but many are still in service. The SanRex SanPaw 150 is currently available and uses the same torch connection. Other less common machines may also use this connection. All nuts are 9/16-18 with an 11/16 hex. Black connects to plasma gas. Yellow connects to shield gas. Red connects to pilot arc and coolant return. Green connects to main arc and coolant supply. The Ultima 150 originally shipped with a quick disconnect “boot” that is required to connect any torch. Some customers have multiple “boots” to enable quicker changeover between toches. Additional “boots” are still available as a service part, as well as replacement o’rings. 150.amp Autogen-Ritter torches come from the factory with the same input and output configuration, but with 1/8 BSP (British Straight Pipe) nuts. Unless otherwise specified, all 150-amp torches sold by PWS include adapter fittings for the ULT 9/16-18 nut and color coding for the ULT connection. If you didn’t buy your torch from PWS, adapter fittings are available separately. -OER OER torches are for Oerlikon power supplies. Also for MicroPaw and some other less common power supplies. All nuts are 1/8 BSP (British Straight Pipe) with a 12mm or 13mm hex. Red connects to main arc and plasma gas. Yellow connects to shield gas. Green connects to water supply and pilot arc. Blue connects to water return. All Oerlikon torches and 50-amp Autogen-Ritter torches come from the factory in this configuration. They may be ordered from PWS as -OER, -ULT, or -DA. If you did not order your torch from PWS, PWS can modify them to -ULT or -DA, usually with a turnaround of 3 to 5 business days. -DA torches are for Pro Fusion Dual Arc 80 power supplies as well as the older Essetti power supplies. Inputs and outputs are labeled by PWS. Nuts for the plasma and shield gas are 1/4 BSP (British Straight Pipe). Connections for coolant are Rectus 21 quick disconnect. Pilot arc connects with a standard banana plug. Main arc connects with a Dinse 10-25 quick disconnect.
